Martin Lawerence: An outstanding black comedian who has set the standards high for up on coming comedians. Martin has stared in movies such as Big Mommas House, Bad Boys, and A Thin Line Between Love and Hate. Big Mommas house was able to gross more than 100 millon dollars. The success of this movie made Martin Lawrence one of the biggest comics in history.
Martin Lawerence was born in Frankfurt, Germany, on April 16 1965. His father was in the army so his mother gave birth to him on one of the U.S. army bases in Germany. By Martins sixth birthday him and his family moved to Maryland. His Father eventually abanden his family leaving behind his Wife and six kids. Martin attended Elanor Roosevelt High School in Landover Maryland. Martin had very good School Spirit. He participated in many different sports programs at the school and still stuck with comedy. Martin even made a deal with his art teacher to stop acting up in class if she let him perform his stand up at the last few minutes of class.
After Martin's high school career, he went on and tried furthering his acting career by attending star search. This landed him a role in the show "What's Happening Now". By 1989 he won two big roles in the movies Do the Right thing and HBO's DEF Comedy Jam. In the early 90's Martin won roles in the House Party and House Party 2. By 1992 Fox gave him his ownsitcom named Martin whigh co-stared Tisha Cambell. The sitcom won two NAACP awards. Two years after Martin's sitcom he launched his own concert film named You so Crazy which became one of the highest paid concert films of his time. Soon after, in 1995 Martin married the former beauty queen Patricia Southall, he fathered a beautiful daughter named Jasmine
Unfortunately Martin's life started to turn upside down, on the set of " A Thin Line Betwween Love and Hate" Martin had a violent outburtst and began taking psychotropic drugs. A few months later he was arrested for screaming and waving a pistol at tourist on Ventura Boulevard. Over the next two years Martin got a series of gun related charges, put his self in drug rehab, and divorced his wife Patricia.
Tisha Cambell (Martin's co-star in his sitcom Martin and the House Party series,) filled a lawsuit agains him for sexual harassment. It excalated to the point that she feard for her life. The studio agreed to a settlement that allowed Tisha to finish the show for the final season. Her and Martin will never work together again
Between 1995 and 1999 Martin starred in several commercial success's such as Bad Boys, Nothing to Loose, Life and his own major role Blue Streak. These movies mad Martin very wealthy, his salary broke the ten million dollar mark for Big Momma's House.
In 1999 while jogging Martin went into a coma because of heat exhaustion. This cross road brought up old rumors and unpredictable behavior. After recuperating Martin said the coma helped put him back on the right track.
